About the Department
Welcome to the Physics Department at
North Park University!
Our department values:
- Excellence: Through hard work and high standards,
we experience the joy of learning.
- Being a family together: We're a small department,
and together we walk with one another to help each
other succeed.
- Worship: We wrestle with the integration of
science and Christian faith because we desire to
worship God with our minds.
The National Task Force on Undergraduate Physics (NTFUP)
included our department in its
study on best-practices
in physics undergraduate programs.

- Understanding our world: From F = ma to
Maxwell's equations for electromagnetic waves to climate modeling,
the physics major will engage
you in all aspects of understanding how God has put together
the physical world.
- Engineering careers: With physics you are well-prepared for
further study in civil, mechanical, aeronautical, astronautical,
and electrical engineering (more).
- Medicine: Physics is great preparation for
medical school (more).
- K-12 Teaching: Physics is one of the keystone natural
sciences, and high school physics teachers are
scarce.
- Finance careers:
The analytical, mathematical, and modeling skills
learned by physics majors (especially physics Ph.D.s)
